WTB1: Are You a Sticker or a Sprinter?

KJ and Jennie are both starting new projects in very different ways

The result of asking AI to generate an image for: one writer is putting a sticker in a calendar while another is contemplating a giant pad of paper. Jennie has giant pad of paper envy now. And one of course has 6 fingers, it’s like the AI signature now. I know it’s not funny any more but also it totally is.

WTB? wtf? Welcome to Writing the Books, a new semi-weekly series in which Jennie and KJ, who suddenly realized they’re both at exactly the same stage of a new project, hold each other accountable to our goals of playing bigger, pushing ourselves to do the best work we’re capable of but also—as always—getting that work done. (There’s a small chance you’ve received this twice, and if so, apologies—we had a small snafu with the organizing system).

We talk about making the move from the planning stage (which took Jennie 3 years and KJ ten weeks) into putting words on the page, what it means to level up (and how we are working to do that every single time), and how to balance letting things take the time they take with an internal drive to work as fast as possible OR the kind of procrastination that can set it when it feels like “it’s just not a good time to start something new” especially when your inner fears know good and well that starting means risking failure.

Then we push each other to set the right kind of goals to move a project forward—which turns out to mean very different things for each of us.

WTB episodes will drop on a mostly weekly basis into your paid subscriber feed, so if you haven’t got that set up, we tell you how, below. And if you’re not a paid subscriber yet—this might be the time.

Wait you’re finally coming up with an alternative to that whole “sticker” business? Tell me more.
