The assignment sounds so simple. Who is my protagonist, and what does she want? For non-fiction it seems even MORE straightforward: Who is my reader and what do they need from my book? And memoir—who was I at the beginning, what did I need and what did I get? Easy peasy, bring on the lemon squeezer.
